Mathew and Christina Colson in Chuuk Micronesia – OLD

Hello from Guam!

Praise the Lord that Christina and I were able to leave the Guam quarantine facility today!  An ocean front view is amazing…but it is nice to be FREE 😊

As you know from all of our email updates, Christina and I had a little bit of a rough start to married life.  Starting out with Christina’s surgery and recovery, then this year with the miscarriage…there has been a lot going on for us.  Through everything we could see the Lord still blessing us.  It was so nice to finally unpack all of our suitcases and settle in here at the parsonage at Temple Baptist Church.  The Lord has opened many new doors for us, one of which is to help out here at Temple.  As of today Chuuk is still closed.  The government says that they want to reach a 75%  vaccination rate, but they just now reached 29%.  So, it looks like Christina and I will be here for a little while.  The Lord has already been leading us to look at expanding our ministry to try and reach even more Chuukese people, and that may be why the Lord has worked it out for us to spend some more time here in Guam.

Back before Covid started, I had received my clearance to start a prison ministry in Hawaii and was planning to start one here.  Over one-third of Chuuk’s population now lives in Guam, Hawaii, and the US mainland and many of them are unsaved.  A lot of Chuukese people send their children to Guam to go to school or to get a job to help their family back home.  Unfortunately, many of the young people end up in juvenile detention centers or in prison.  Just a few weeks ago a sixteen year old Chuukese boy, who I had met while visiting a juvenile detention center in Hawaii a couple of years ago, was shot and killed by police while he and a few other Chuukese kids were on a crime spree.  Last week, a thirty-one year old Chuukese guy was killed by police in Texas after charging at them with a machete.  The prison here on Guam has been listed as one of the worst prisons in America and many of the inmates are Chuukese.  Eddy, one of the men from Kilisou Baptist Church, had a son who was killed while in prison here.  There are many ministry opportunities for us.  Please be praying that we reach as many people for the Lord as we can!

We are looking forward to keeping you all up to date on everything!

In Jesus,

Matthew & Christina
